A VIEW FROM MY WINDOW

I enjoy sitting in my chair in the living room, knitting or reading, and looking out our picture window at the huge maple tree in our side yard.  I watch the birds and the squirrels through that window and can see when Dave drives up the driveway.  We keep track of our neighbor through that same window.  We have a good neighborhood watch and look out for each other.  I watch snow drifts grow in depth through that same window and can even see some of our spring flowers during the spring.

Over the past few weeks I have had a glorious view of the changing leaves on our maple tree.  With the sun shining through them, the entire tree takes on a glowing golden color that is breathtaking, and radiated the color into our living room.  I used to sing a song entitled, “He” and there is a line in the song that says that God can “touch a tree and turn the leaves to gold.”  He certainly did that this year to our maple tree.  Looking out at the beauty God gave us allowed me such a sense of well-being and peace.

Then, we had a very hard frost one night last week and the next day, I watched out the window as a shower of leaves rained down, sending those beautiful leaves to the ground.  The view from my window is quite different now.  I can see the bird feeders much more clearly with no leaves but the branches are stark and bare.

Giving this some thought has made me realize that life is much like the view from my window.  Each day, our lives change and some days are better than others.  Some days bring us peace and contentment while other days bring us a stark loneliness.  The thing that we have to remember is that God is with us through each and every day.  He will walk with us through the dark times and send us His glorious golden sunshine as we leave our dark days behind.  Our strength and comfort come from knowing that He will never leave us or forsake us and that He wants good for us.  The trees around us are changing drastically right now and we will soon enter the winter season.  The one thing that remains constant is God’s love and forgiveness.  For that reason our lives can shine no matter what we are facing.  Remember to thank God for His love and goodness!
